Student secures dream Design job at Regal Kitchens

A work experience placement really paid off for one South Essex College Design student, earning her a part-time job with a prestigious kitchen company.

Cat Baker, 17, from Chelmsford studies 3D Design at the College’s Southend Campus and dreams of becoming an Interior Designer in the future.

All students have to complete 21 hours work experience as part of their course, to help them gain experience in the industry they want to pursue a career in.

Cat undertook a placement at Regal Kitchens in Chelmsford and has now secured a paid part-time job with the company.

Emma Mcloughlin, Business Development Manager at Regal, said: “I didn’t really know what to expect from a work experience student so from a business perspective this was a real shot in the dark for us, but I was immediately impressed with Cat’s skills and determination to complete any task I gave her.

“She showed a lot of initiative during her time with us. We believe taking her on as a staff member will add value to her studies plus we see her as being a great asset to our growing team.”

Regal Kitchens design and install bespoke kitchens and bedrooms in people’s homes. Cat will be working as Emma’s assistant and learning the trade from other designers at the company.

Cat said:

“I’ve always been interested in design and drawing, I’m a creative person. I hope to progress onto the Interior Design degree at University Centre Southend so my new job will help me further my knowledge of the industry.”
