What is Which? Trusted Traders?
Which? Trusted Traders is an endorsement scheme that recognises reputable local tradesmen and tradeswomen. This includes all kinds of home improvement professionals, from bathroom fitters, builders and electricians to gardeners, plumbers and home security experts. Which? Trusted Traders aims to raise standards for consumers by setting a benchmark that all traders need to meet before they can be endorsed. Only traders who meet our rigorous standards can become a Which? Trusted Trader. The Which? Trusted Trader logo is a sign of reputation and trust; helping consumers choose the right trader for them and giving good traders the recognition they deserve.
Why use Which?
Trusted Traders Adapting the home can be a big job that takes a lot of time and costs a lot of money. But however big or small the project, you want to be confident the work is done to a high standard and will stand the test of time. If the work you’re getting done is designed to give you greater independence, security or safety at home – or if you’re arranging this for an older family member or friend – it’s even more important to find the right person to do the job. You need to be confident that any tradespeople working in your home will be professional, trustworthy and reliable, and they will carry out the work to a high standard that meets your specifications.
How much does it cost to use the service?
It’s free. Whether you’re a Which? member or not, everyone is welcome to use Which? Trusted Traders.
How do I find a trader?
Endorsed traders have profiles on the Which? Trusted Traders website, which include their contact details, business websites, information about their business, pictures of their work and reviews from other users. The reviews are moderated for authenticity, and we welcome both positive and negative feedback. You can find Which? Trusted Traders in your area by searching for the specific trade you need, such as plumbers, electricians or mechanics, together with your postcode or local area. How does the scheme work? All Which? Trusted Traders go through a standard assessment, which involves checking their references and qualifications. Qualified trading standards assessors do a credit report, check they have appropriate insurance in place and get feedback direct from a selection of their existing customers. They also carry out a face-to-face interview to check their business is in good shape. In addition, all Which? Trusted Traders have to comply with a code of conduct. If they don’t, they can be suspended or removed from the scheme. Should anything go wrong, Which? Trusted Traders are members of an alternative dispute resolution service, which gives you recourse to an independent ombudsman in the unlikely event of a dispute.
